This article provides an update on the use of cognitive behavioral techniques in couples therapy and offers a cognitive model of case conceptualization such aspects as automatic thoughts, underlying schemas and cognitive distortions are reviewed along with communication and problem solving skills. How to perform clinical assessment including shared initial interview, individual interviews and the questionnaires that could help in the process and giving feedback to couple is explained at the end of the first section of this review.
