Objective: To study the approach of theory of mind construct in developmental psychology.
Method: This review article presents the definition of theory of mind and its origins, along with a description of the pertinent developmental theories. Moreover, the importance of representation and metarepresentation is elucidated and the related tasks, including false belief tasks and reality tasks are discussed. Finally, the reasons for the failure of 3-year old children in these tasks are explored.
Results & Conclusion: It could be argued that developing children achieve two signiticant discoveries regarding the mind; First “what the mind is”, and second “How the mind functions”. These achievement is quite fundamental to an understanding of the social world.
